November is
National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo.
NaNoWriMo (pronounced NAN-no WRY-Mo) is a fun,
seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing.
Founded by 21 novelists in the San Francisco Bay
Area in 1999, the organization has grown to include
59,000 participants in 2005. Every November 1 at
12:00:01am local time, participants begin writing
their novels. The goal is to write a 175-page,
50,000 page novel by midnight November 30. There are
no "Best Novel" or "Quickest-Written Novel" awards
given out; everyone who accomplishes this
challenging feat is a winner and receives an
official "Winner" web icon and certificate. Sign-ups
for the 2006 NaNoWriMo began October 1. To learn
